The community of Newbury Park, California lies on a western portion of the city of Thousand Oaks and an unincorporated portion of southern Ventura County. It is roughly 35 miles from downtown Los Angeles.
Its historic Stagecoach Inn was used by people traveling from Los Angeles in the south to Santa Barbara in the north. It has been growing in population because of the biotechnology company Amgen, as well as numerous other businesses. Newbury Park High School has 2150 students and a newly refurbished football stadium.
The community contains two major new growth residential areas, Rancho Conejo Village (built on the site of the former Rancho Conejo Airport, where portions of the film It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World were filmed) and Dos Vientos Ranch. The census designated place Casa Conejo, located in a roughly square-shaped unincorporated area of the city, is also considered to be part of Newbury Park.
Newbury Park abuts the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, with entrances at the northwest corner of the park at Rancho Sierra Vista and Satwiwa accessible from the Wendy Drive exit of US 101.
Famous swing bandleader and clarinet player Artie Shaw lived in Newbury Park from 1978 till his death in 2004.
